It is said to have been established in 1871 by Mangkunegara IV, ruler of the Mangkunegaran principality, and developed as a major center supporting the regional sugar industry. In recent years, the factory has reportedly been out of operation since 2021. SGN, a state-affiliated sugar company, has announced plans to restart production in 2027.
