Pakis Baru Sugar Factory Locomotives

The Pakis Baru Sugar Factory was a sugar mill of colonial origin, located in the Tayu area of Pati Regency, Central Java. Established in the latter half of the nineteenth century, the factory continued operations through various political and economic transitions following Indonesian independence. To transport sugarcane from the surrounding plantations, an industrial railway network was constructed, on which steam locomotives once played an active role. Today, while raw material transport relies primarily on road vehicles, the historical records of the former sugar factory railway continue to convey the legacy of Java’s sugar industry.
