Central Azucarera de La Carlota, Inc. (CACI) Railway
Founded in 1916 during the American colonial era, this long-established sugar mill was once one of the largest in the Philippines, significantly influencing the regional economy and infrastructure. As of 2025, it still operates under Universal Robina Corporation (URC) as "URC La Carlota," managing everything from sugarcane cultivation to sugar production. In 1983, the factory had a dense network of railway lines connecting plantations and the mill, estimated to total 70–80 kilometers in length. The locomotives used were mainly 0-C-0 tank steam engines manufactured by Baldwin in the U.S., including the No. 100 built in 1919. These engines were fueled with bagasse (compressed sugarcane residue) mixed with fuel oil.
